Fatal Chromobacterium violaceum Infection in Child: A Case Report

Chromobacterium violaceum (C. violaceum) is a facultative anaerobic Gram-negative bacterium in soil or water that rarely causes disease with high mortality. An 8.5-year-old boy developed hypoechoic lesion at the abdominal diameter of 3.5cm x 4.9cm, pneumonia, and dextral pleural effusion. He had been diagnosed suspected tuberculosis granulomatous contact decreased body weight history. fever increased leucocyte count C-reactive protein. got ceftazidime, gentamycin as antibiotic therapy, dexamethasone support therapy. died septic shock, hepatic respiratory failure after 7 days. This case emphasizes importance taking C. violaceus infection into account patients who experience refractory shock while receiving appropriate treatment for presumed sepsis owing to abscesses, particularly those history standing exposure. Because violaceins fluctuating resistance patterns, it important think about using effective antimicrobial drugs combination
